Former TVA anchor Pierre Bruneau expects a “very lively debate” between Joe Biden and Donald Trump on Thursday night. According to him, the former president will certainly be unpredictable.

While on QUB Radio, Mr. Bruneau opened up about his experience as a political debate host. With many election nights under his belt, he explains that Biden and Trump should rely on doubt to win points with viewers.

“Creating doubts about immigration, about state security, about age (…), about abortion… this is a subject that will be debated very fiercely during this first debate,” he said.

Their ages will also be a source of reproach from the two participants, who are 78 and 81 respectively. “They have shown weaknesses on a few occasions,” he added. According to him, it is a question of “who will be the least lost in his words.”

Special broadcast on LCN, Thursday June 27, from 8 p.m.

“It’s a bit like an F1 race, we start and you want to keep pole position, you never want the other to overtake you, neither by their arguments nor by their objections,” he illustrated .

“When you are outgoing prime minister, you have a head start, but you have to defend a mandate. In the case of Biden and (…) Trump, both have already had one mandate. Both will therefore want to prove that the mandate that (each) led is better than that of the other,” he underlined.

Even though the questions are already prepared by the moderators and the team behind the organization of the debate, Mr. Bruneau is convinced that with “Donald Trump, you never know what to expect.”

The last debate Mr. Bruneau hosted was the provincial election in 2022. It was a “cacophony,” according to him, but he says the team was anticipating it.

“We can expect it to be a very lively debate this evening,” he said.
