European dealers said on Sunday that a government buyer of grains in Syria put forward an international tender to buy about 100,000 tons of flour wheat.
It is believed that the deadline for submitting price offers is April 28, provided that the shipment is within 45 days from the date of granting the contract.
Syria bought about 100,000 tons of wheat in a previous tender that it launched on March 25.
It is believed that it was the first major purchase in an international tender since the new administration arrived in power late last year.
The Minister of Agriculture in the caretaker government, Muhammad Taha Al -Ahmad, told Al -Jazeera Net before the appointment of the new government that his ministry has developed systematic plans that would achieve self -sufficiency in Syria from agricultural crops and wheat on top of its priorities, in just one year.
This came weeks before the Syrian President Ahmed al -Shara announced the formation of the new Syrian government, as Amjad Badr was appointed Minister of Agriculture.
Syria needs 3 million tons of wheat annually in order to achieve self -sufficiency, according to Muhammad Taha Al -Ahmad.
The head of the Flurial Factors Union in Türkiye, Arn Gaunhan Olsawi, expected that his country’s exports of wheat flour to Syria were 400 thousand tons in 2025.
