This Monday, the President of the climate conference, Sultan Al Jaber, responded to critics who accused him of climate denial and wanting to delay the end of the use of fossil fuels: “Science has guided my life. It’s a fact. Science says we must reach net zero emissions by 2050, and that we must reduce emissions by 43% by 2030, and that is to reduce 22 tons, the one I just talked about, so we can keep 1.5 of the range.”
The holding of COP28 was criticized by many politicians, scientists and NGOs. Among them, Al Gore, former American vice-president: “the oil and gas industry made a mistake by going too far and appointing the CEO of one of the largest and dirtiest, in many ways, oil companies in the world as COP President.”
The Ukrainian delegation made the trip to present its energy transition projects. notably that of the D-TEK company, which is building the largest wind farm in the country in Mykolaiv.
Maxim Timchenko, CEO of the company, explains that construction is taking place not far from the fighting: “Workers work in bulletproof vests and see missiles flying overhead. These are the conditions in which we are building the first phase and that is why we are proud of this achievement.”
Several dozen people are outside the entrance to the event so that the biggest polluters on the planet can help more countries more vulnerable to climate change.
