A dispute between two families reportedly escalated Sunday at the Adventureland amusement park on Long Island when a 40-year-old stabbed an acquaintance in the stomach in front of at least one child, according to police authorities.
“It’s very sad because we come here with kids. This is a kids’ amusement park, and families come here with their kids to have a good time,” Jessie Hagelstein, who was at the scene with her family, told News 12 on Monday.
On Sunday afternoon, a conflict between two families who knew each other took a dramatic turn when a 42-year-old man, Daniel Tomasky, violently stabbed James Burns, 47, in the stomach, according to the New York Post.
It is unclear which of the two men allegedly caused the conflict in the first place, as the families of both men were enjoying a day at Adventureland park on Long Island, New York.
At least one child is believed to have witnessed the violent attack, according to Suffolk County police.
The victim was reportedly rushed to hospital to be treated for serious injuries, the police department told US media.
The attacker, meanwhile, was reportedly arrested and charged with first-degree assault, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, endangering the welfare of a child and other related criminal charges, police reportedly listed.
The park was closed for a few hours for investigations, before resuming normal operations that evening.
“It’s a little disturbing, but again, it’s becoming less and less news. It’s more common and expected,” sighed another father, Mike LaRocca, to News 12.
