An American actress and her family were reportedly greatly shaken on Saturday when a food delivery man shot the family dog in his driveway during the Easter weekend, pleading self-defense to the police.
“He shot our dog with my daughters and I at home and kept saying ‘yeah, I shot your dog. Yeah, I did it”. We are completely traumatized and beyond devastated by the loss of our beloved boy,” actress Angie Harmon, who notably stars in “Law & Order,” lamented on Instagram on Monday, NBC News reported.
Saturday around noon, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police in North Carolina were reportedly called to the actress’ private residence, where a deliveryman of “consumable goods” from the Instacart company had just fatally shot one of the two family dogs.
“Another dog was present at the residence but did not attack,” police reportedly confirmed to the American media.
Except that no charges would have been filed against the driver, and the police force would have already closed the case without trying to contact other potential witnesses, he would have told NBC News.
“He got out of his car, delivered the food and THEN shot our dog… The police let him go because he claimed it was “self-defense.” He had no scratches or bites on him and his pants were not torn,” the 51-year-old actress continued in her publication.
What’s more, the doorbell camera, usually hung outside, was charging in the house, so the nonchalant delivery guy “knew he wasn’t being filmed,” she alleged.
In the comments, many Internet users horrified by the situation advised the actress to take legal action against the dog’s attacker or escalate the case to a “higher authority figure within the local police force”.
For its part, Instacart would have suspended the deliveryman, who carried out his work under the identity of a woman who indicated that he was cooperating with the police in the case.
“We were deeply saddened and disturbed by this incident. We have no tolerance for violence of any kind,” the company reportedly wrote, according to NBC News.
