At least five people were shot at a carnival celebrating Caribbean culture in the New York borough of Brooklyn on Monday.
It was the West Indian Day Parade. According to the New York Post, Five people were shot by a lone gunman near 300 Eastern Parkway around 2:35 p.m.
A man was reportedly hit in the head. Two victims are said to be in critical condition.
In a press conference broadcast on social media, the New York City Police Department said that this was a deliberate act. The suspect is still on the run. The police have therefore increased their presence in the Brooklyn area.
“(On Monday) someone intentionally attacking a group of people tried to ruin everyone’s day,” Police Chief John Chell said.
The Big Apple daily added that an individual was stabbed on Franklin Street at around 7:45 p.m.
A police investigation is underway to try to determine whether the crimes are linked.
