(Los Angeles) Eight of the nine skiers missing in an avalanche in California have been found dead, the last one still being sought, local authorities announced Wednesday.

Six skiers from a group of 15 had been rescued the day before in the middle of a snowstorm. But despite search efforts in extremely difficult conditions, “eight of the nine other skiers (in this group) were found dead,” explained Shannan Moon, the sheriff of Nevada County at a press conference.

“We are still looking for one of the members of the group,” the last one missing, she added.
