Boeing delivered nine 737 Max jets to Chinese airlines in August, the largest monthly delivery of the model since December 2018, when it was grounded following two crashes, according to figures released Tuesday.
China is the last major country to allow the Max model to return to service after a hiatus of more than a year and a half following two crashes in 2018 and 2019 that killed 346 people.
Boeing resumed deliveries to China in January 2024.
Boeing delivered 32 Max jets in August, bringing its total deliveries to 40 for the month, compared with 35 in the same period last year.
Irish low-cost carrier Ryanair has received six Max jets, the largest number ever received by a single airline.
The company’s CEO, Michael O’Reilly, said in late August that his company would lose millions of passengers this year due to Boeing’s delay in delivering aircraft.
Among the companies that will receive Max aircraft are Southwest Airlines, United Airlines and Xiamen Airlines.
During the first eight months of 2024, Boeing delivered 258 aircraft, including 198 Max aircraft.
During the same period in 2023, Boeing delivered 344 aircraft, including 265 Max aircraft.
Production of the aircraft slowed in 2024 after an emergency door separated from the fuselage of a Boeing 737 Max 9 during an Alaska Airlines flight in January, forcing an emergency landing.
