A 3-year-old Indiana toddler was seriously injured after being brutally beaten by a 12-year-old who was supposed to babysit him.

Noah Brown was placed in an induced coma in hospital following his attack on November 29 at his father’s home in Indianapolis.

The baby’s mother, Michelle Lane, wrote in a petition posted online that her child’s abuser is her ex-husband’s stepson. The latter had to watch the 3-year-old boy and his 5-year-old brother while his parents went to the store to make purchases.

“The 12-year-old told his biological father that my son was “unbearable” when he cried, prompting him to beat him with a belt, bang his head against a bed frame and hit him against a wall,” she continues in her message.

It demands that child care providers be at least 16 years old when they have to look after young people under 6 years old.

“We must also ensure that the person who takes care of the children does not suffer from mental health problems which could jeopardize the safety of the young people for whom they are responsible,” she continues.

Little Noah was a happy and full of life child before the attack, his grandmother Candy King testified during an interview with a local TV channel.

“He loved everyone. It would have brightened your day, that’s for sure,” she pleads.

“The 12-year-old had anger issues. He couldn’t stand Noah crying,” she explains.

After being beaten, the boy hid under a bed before losing consciousness. He was no longer breathing when his father found him.

The teen is charged with aggravated assault, causing serious injury to a person under 14 and weapons possession.

Long convalescence

Little Noah’s seizures led doctors to place him in an artificial coma.

“We had to put him on life support. Part of his skull had to be removed due to the severity of his injuries,” added Michelle Lane, the child’s mother.

“He has a long road to go before he is recovered,” she admitted to the Fox 59 TV channel. “We do not yet know if he will have a good quality of life, but we continue to pray for him hoping that everything will go well.

Candy King says doctors are trying to remove the equipment that allows Noah to breathe. “They also stopped giving him the drugs that keep him in a coma so he can wake up,” she said.
