“I intend to see the federal government assume the entire cost of rebuilding this bridge and I hope that Congress will support me,” added Joe Biden in a short speech at the White House.
He deplored a “terrible accident”.
Rescuers are searching the water and the seabed for at least six members of a team of eight workers who were working on the bridge at the time of the accident, according to the latest report.

“I told my team to move heaven and earth to reopen the port and rebuild the bridge as quickly as humanly possible,” but it will “take time,” said the 81-year-old Democrat.
He promised to deploy “all federal resources” necessary for this “very important” infrastructure, which more than 30,000 vehicles use every day.

Joe Biden has launched a gigantic program to renovate American infrastructure, which includes in particular a budget of 40 billion dollars for the bridges of the United States, of which more than 43,500 are judged to be in “poor condition”.
The Francis Scott Key Bridge, opened in 1977, did not fall into this category.
