(Washington) “When will the polls reflect the greatness of America today? » Donald Trump gave free rein on Thursday to his exasperation in the face of opinion polls, which reveal the growing dissatisfaction of Americans with his economic policy.

“When will we finally say that I created, without inflation, perhaps the best economy in the history of our country? When will people understand what’s going on? » the American president was further indignant in a message on his Truth Social network.

He once again blamed his Democratic predecessor Joe Biden for the “disaster” he left him with in terms of inflation.

A poll conducted by the University of Chicago for the AP agency, published Thursday, indicates that only 31% of Americans are satisfied with the economic policy pursued by Donald Trump, compared to 40% in March, the lowest level ever recorded, including during his first term.

68% of them believe that the American economy is doing badly, according to the same survey.

This dissatisfaction contrasts with the flattering economic landscape painted by the president, who was elected largely on his promises to fight the high cost of living.

The 79-year-old Republican repeated Thursday that “prices were falling rapidly” and praised the high level of stock prices.

Inflation, which soared during Joe Biden’s presidency, first slowed after Donald Trump returned to power in January, then accelerated since April.

The last figure published, in September, was a 2.8% increase in prices over one year. The government did not release statistics for October, citing the ongoing budgetary shutdown, and the November figure is expected next week.

“As far as the cost of living is concerned, all the economic indicators (…) show that in reality the economy is better and more vibrant than under the previous government,” assured White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt on Thursday during a press conference.
