On the big screen, it’s coming. Baby Yoda, who has become an interplanetary mascot in the “Star Wars” universe for several years thanks to the “The Mandalorian” series, will soon have a dedicated film within the franchise, Lucasfilm announced on Tuesday.
This feature film will be directed by Jon Favreau, who was already at the helm of the series.
In this series, spectators followed the adventures of a mysterious bounty hunter, Din Djarin, responsible for delivering to a sinister client a small green creature named Grogu, with whom he befriended.
With his oversized pointy ears and adorable big black eyes, this alien, who belongs to the same species as Grandmaster Yoda from the original films, quickly won over fans, who were quick to rename him Baby Yoda.
“The prospect of bringing the Mandalorian and his apprentice Grogu to the big screen is extremely exciting,” said Mr. Favreau in a press release.

We do not yet know if Pedro Pascal, who played the Mandalorian in the series, will resume his bounty hunter armor.
The feature film also does not have an official release date at this time.
The franchise’s last adventure at the cinema dates back to 2019: “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker”, then generated more than a billion in revenue at the global box office, despite unfavorable reviews.
Since then, several films have been announced, without knowing if they will really come to fruition.
Productions initially entrusted to Kevin Feige – from the Marvel universe – and Patty Jenkins (“Wonder Woman”) were discreetly put aside.
Other films in preparation, under the leadership of directors like Taika Waititi or James Mangold, are a priori still in the pipeline. And another is to see Daisy Ridley reprise her role as Rey, the heroine of the latest Disney trilogy.
On Disney’s calendar, the next Star Wars film is scheduled for May 2026.
