The death of a baby decapitated at birth was classified as a homicide caused by “the actions of another person,” the medical examiner’s office ruled Tuesday, whose report could now lead to criminal charges against the treating team.

“We just want justice for our son,” said Treveon Isaiah Taylor, the baby’s father alongside his wife, Jessica Ross, on Wednesday, speaking publicly for the first time since the death last July, according to NBC News.

On Tuesday, the Clayton County Medical Examiner’s Office in the state of Georgia announced in a press release that the death of the baby, decapitated at birth after his shoulders became stuck in the mother’s vaginal cavity, was indeed and indeed due to “the actions of another person”, noted the American media.

The incident was thus classified as a homicide by the medical examiner, who specified that the baby’s death would be the direct result of a fracture of the cervical vertebrae of the spine.

It is not yet clear whether the obstetrician, Dr. Tracey St. Julian, or other members of the treating team face charges in the case, but it could be transferred to the County Prosecutor’s Office. Clayton, according to the medical examiner.

In the meantime, the case would still be under investigation, said Major Frank Thomas, spokesman for the Clayton County police, without adding details.

For his part, the lawyer for the two parents reiterated on Wednesday his accusations against the obstetrician, whom he accused in a civil suit of having used “ridiculously excessive force” on the baby’s head, after refusing to give birth by cesarean section.

The couple also accuses the Southern Regional Medical Center and the obstetrician of “failing to meet the standards of care” and of having wanted to hide the cause of the baby’s death, in particular by preventing the parents from holding the baby’s body. .

“We are going to (force) everyone who was in the room (to testify), insisted Roderick Edmond, the parents’ lawyer, during the press conference, according to NBC News. All the nurses, all the cleaning technicians – everyone – to find out, essentially, what happened.”
