Before the big night of Kamala Harris’ speech, which is scheduled to speak on Thursday, the Democratic convention was already 30% more listened to than the Republican convention, held a few weeks earlier.
At least that is what Jean-Marc Léger, president of the Léger firm, observed at the end of the third evening of this convention held in Chicago.
“After three days, it’s a higher rate and that’s important,” he said in an interview with LCN on Thursday.
On the Republican side, the convention managed to reach 26 million viewers on the networks on the fourth night, when Donald Trump made his entrance on stage to be officially designated as the presidential candidate.
“We’ll see if Kamala Harris can live up to it,” the analyst said.
The Democratic candidate will have quite a challenge ahead of her, according to Jean-Marc Léger. “There has been emotion for three days, but there is not enough rationality,” he explained.
If she is likely to address the issue of abortion, she will also have to be able to speak out on immigration and security in the United States, issues that have so far been lacking.
“People need to rationalize everything they’ve experienced, that’s what a voting intention is,” Léger summarized. “Until now, we have little idea about Kamala Harris’ real policies.”
She will also have to officially turn the page on Joe Biden and make it clear that she is distancing herself from the president who left her place.
“After tonight, the next step will be the debate on September 10, so (the Democrats) need this strong trace in people’s minds,” he believes.
