European Commission President Ursula von der Line announced that the European Union will invest an additional 50 billion euros (51.6 billion dollars) to support the aspirations of artificial intelligence in Europe, during her speech at the Summit of Artificial Intelligence held in Paris.
The president pointed out that these investments are added to the “AI Heroes” initiative, which pledged to provide 150 billion euros (155.2 billion dollars), with the aim of collecting a total of 200 billion euros (207 billion dollars) to support advanced technologies.
“Artificial Intelligence Heroes”
More than 60 European companies launched the “AI Heroes” initiative during the same summit, with the aim of integrating it into the European industrial base to increase productivity and economic sovereignty. The initiative targets sectors such as manufacturing, energy and military industries.
This initiative participates in this initiative as major companies such as Airbus, Siemens, and Volkswagen, as well as startups such as Mistral I and Data ICO.
Janet Tsu Forcity, the administrative director of General Catalist, explained that Europe has strong ingredients such as talent and industrial structure, and needs to invest these resources to achieve a balance between technology, politics and capital.
Calls to simplify legal frameworks
The initiative called on the European Union to simplify the legal frameworks of artificial intelligence applications. According to the German News Agency, preliminary talks were launched on this issue during the summit, which gathered 1500 participants from 100 countries, including political leaders such as German Chancellor Olaf Schultz, President of the European Commission, and US Vice President JD Verse.
A common European vision led by France
Before the start of the summit, French President Emmanuel Macron confirmed in an interview with the newspaper “Le Parisian” that France is seeking to be the leader in the field of artificial intelligence in Europe, expressing his hope to reach a common ground on technology regulatory legislation.
Macron added that the summit seeks to enhance international cooperation in artificial intelligence, after the success of the UK summit in 2023 and South Korea in 2024.
The summit witnessed the participation of prominent technical companies such as Microsoft, Google, and Open AI, which reflects the global interest in developing artificial intelligence. Europe also seeks to enhance its technical independence through these investments and initiatives.
With these big steps, the European Union shows its design to become a world leading force in artificial intelligence, while achieving a balance between technological development and legal organization.
