An 8-year-old girl borrowed the family car to go shopping alone at a mall in Ohio.
On Sunday morning, the young driver, no taller than three apples, got behind the wheel of the SUV in Bedford to go alone to the Target store located in the neighboring town of Bainbridge, according to the online media Today.com.
The child’s parents alerted the police about her disappearance, but thanks to the neighbor’s surveillance camera, investigators found that the missing person had left in the family vehicle, a 2020 Nissan Rogue.
After some searching by Bedford police, the SUV was quickly found in the parking lot of the Target store in Bainbridge, about 20 kilometers from the family home.
The Google Maps application estimated the time to travel to the store at 25 minutes, respecting the average speed for an adult driver, continued the American media.
Police found the young driver in the aisles of Target and notified her parents who came to pick her up and their vehicle, which was slightly damaged, because the child told police she had hit a mailbox on the way to the store.
“We’re not sure what she bought or if she even used her Target app to save 5%. We let her finish her Frappuccino. We’re not mean,” the police department joked on Facebook.
