Former US first lady Melania Trump recounted in a rare interview broadcast on Fox News on Thursday how she experienced the assassination attempts against her husband Donald Trump, calling his survival a “miracle.”
She was in New York when, on July 13, the former president was shot during one of his rallies, in Butler, Pennsylvania.
“I ran to the TV, and rewound. And I looked. I was only a few minutes late (…), but when I saw that (…), no one really knew yet. Because when you see him on the ground and you don’t know, you don’t know what really happened,” she said.
The shooter was killed in the process and Donald Trump was only slightly injured in the ear.
“Miracles”
Melania Trump thanked the Secret Service agents responsible for protecting Donald Trump, calling them “fantastic,” despite criticism of security gaps at the outdoor rally.
The former first lady also spoke of the second assassination attempt against the Republican, on his own golf course in Florida, on September 15.
“I think in both cases they were truly miracles. If you really think about it, July 13 was a miracle.”
Melania Trump, normally far from the media, gave her first television interview in two years to promote her memoir which will be released on October 8, less than a month before the presidential election of November 5 which could bring back her husband at the White House.
Lots of questions
Politicians’ wives usually play important roles in election campaigns, but Melania Trump has avoided her husband’s rallies, fueling speculation about their relationship.
The 54-year-old former Slovenian model was also absent from the hearings in the trial against Donald Trump in New York in the spring, a trial at the end of which he was found guilty of falsifying documents intended to conceal, just before his victory in the presidential election in 2016, a payment to an porn actress so that she would keep quiet about a sexual relationship she said she had with him.
In recent days, Melania Trump has ignored her discretion and published a series of videos on social networks.

“I had a lot of questions. What’s going on? This is not normal. And isn’t it truly shocking that all this violence is directed against my husband?” she declared.
