(Washington) Seven people, including American soldiers, were briefly hospitalized after the delivery of a suspicious package with a “negative” message towards Donald Trump to an air base which notably houses the presidential plane Air Force Onea military spokesperson confirmed on Friday.
The incident at Joint Base Andrews, near Washington, was initially reported by American media on Thursday.
On Thursday, “an individual opened a suspicious package containing negative opinions towards the president and his actions. There were no specific threats against the president or other executive officials,” a base spokesperson said in a statement, without further details.
“Seven people felt unwell and were examined by base medical services before leaving,” he added.
The first responders “evacuated the building and the adjacent building as a precaution and established a security perimeter”, but the battery of tests carried out in the area did not result in the discovery of “any powder or dangerous products”, according to the same source.
The investigation is being led by the Air Force, it was added.
Several media outlets, including CNN, reported the presence of white powder in the package.
The base, located a few kilometers from the United States capital, is regularly used for flights of high-ranking government officials.
