An American journalist refuted the Israeli and American narratives about the events of the war currently taking place in the Gaza Strip, describing them as false and extremist.
Journalist Jeremy Scahill said that the events of last week should remove any doubts that the war against the Palestinians in Gaza is nothing but a joint operation between the United States and Israel.
This was evidenced by the fact that the administration of US President Joe Biden stood alone – among the countries of the world – against the UN Security Council resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire, using its veto power.
He pointed out in an article in the online newspaper The Interrest that US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken was busy circumventing Congress’s review of the administration’s decision to activate the emergency declaration to approve the sale of 13,000 tank shells to Israel.
Blinken is just a propagandist
According to the American journalist, Blinken has been traveling around the Middle East, appearing on dozens of television channels on a “public relations tour” aimed at promoting the idea that he is deeply concerned about the fate of Gaza’s 2.2 million residents.
Blinken said on November 10 that “a very large number of Palestinians have been killed; a very large number have suffered in the past weeks, and we want to do everything in our power to prevent harm to them.”
A month later — with the death toll rising dramatically and calls for a ceasefire growing — Blinken assured the world that Israel was implementing new measures to protect civilians and that the United States was doing everything it could to encourage Israel to use a little more moderation in its widespread killing campaign.
From the moment Biden described Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as a “great friend” on October 7, immediately after the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) attack on Israel, the United States not only sent more weapons and intelligence support to the occupying state, but also It also provided it with “crucial” political cover for its scorched earth campaign to “annihilate” Gaza as Palestinian territory.
America is very extreme in its support for Israel
Scahill considered that the expressions of concern and caution that came out of the mouths of US administration officials were “misplaced,” while all their actions were aimed at causing more killing and destruction to the Palestinians.
He described the American propaganda launched by the Biden administration as “very extreme” at times, and the Israeli army even suggested toning down its intensity slightly.
Biden “falsely” claimed that he had seen pictures of “terrorists beheading children,” then deliberately reported this claim – the veracity of which was not verified – as fact, and publicly questioned the numbers of Palestinian deaths.
The American journalist said that all we know about Biden’s nearly 50-year history is that he was distinguished by his support and facilitation of Israel’s commission of the worst crimes and violations.
The Hamas attack does not justify the Israeli campaign
Scahill added that the “horrific” nature of the Hamas attack on October 7 in no way justifies – neither morally nor legally – what Israel did to the civilian population of Gaza, of whom more than 18,000 were martyred in 60 days, and that nothing It justifies the killing of children on such a large scale.
He added that what Israel is doing far exceeds any basic principles related to proportionality or legality, and that its crimes exceed those committed by Hamas and the other groups that participated in the October 7 attack, according to him.
A defense of the indefensible
However, Biden and other US officials continue to defend “the indefensible” by presenting their “outdated and twisted” idea of Israel’s right to defend itself.
In Scahill’s opinion, this justification is in the interest of Israel alone, because the Palestinians cannot inflict such destruction on Israel and its people. Palestine “does not have an army, navy, or air force, and there are no strong countries to supply it with the latest and most lethal military equipment.” It does not have hundreds of nuclear weapons.”
According to the Intercept article, Israel can burn Gaza and its residents to the ground “because the United States facilitates it, politically and militarily.”
Surrender, death, or flight
Over the past two months, many Israeli officials and lawmakers have been revealing their intentions to harass Palestinians en masse “to force them to surrender, die, or flee.”
Scahill concluded that any analysis of the “terrorist” campaign waged by Israel against the people of Gaza should not begin with the events of October 7. “Any honest examination of the current situation must view October 7 in the context of Israel’s 75-year war against the Palestinians and over the past two decades.”
Irrational logic
By branding anyone who disagrees with anti-Semitism, Israel and its defenders demand that everyone accept its official rationale for its “irrational” actions as legitimate.
The American journalist goes on to say that one cannot contradict the “crimes” of Hamas, Islamic Jihad, or any other armed resistance factions, without first the reasons for the existence of these movements and their receipt of this support.
A “real” examination of the reasons why a group like Hamas gains popularity among Palestinians, or why people in Gaza resort to armed struggle, must focus on how oppressed people respond to the oppressor when they are stripped of all forms of legitimate resistance.
