The American Airlines Airlines shares fell after the collision of a local passenger plane with a Black Hawk helicopter and their fall in the Botomac River near the National Reagan National Airport in Washington, DC yesterday evening.
The American Airlines shares fell 4.9% to $ 16.46, in pre -opening transactions.
Officials who announced the accident did not announce the official death toll in the accident, but Senator Rogar Marshall from Kansas, from which the flight started, indicated that all those on the plane were killed.
“It is really difficult to lose more than 60 people from Kansas once,” he said at a press conference at Reagan Airport this morning.
Correction of the bodies
The American authorities announced the recovery of the bodies of 28 people who were killed in the accident, confirming that there are no survivors of the accident, which is the worst in the history of aviation accidents in the United States in 24 years.
American Airlines confirmed that 60 people and 4 people were on board. An American official said 3 soldiers were on board the helicopter.
The collision occurred in the air during the approach of the passenger plane coming to Witchita, Kansas, from Reagan Airport to land. The wireless communications between the air traffic control tower and the helicopter showed that the Black Hawk crew was aware that the passenger plane is close to it.
The Pentagon (Pentagon) announced an investigation immediately in the incident, which appeared to be President Donald Trump, in which he blamed the helicopter and air traffic monitors in a post on the Truth Social platform.
“The helicopter flew directly to the plane for a while. The sky was clear at night and the lights of the plane lit, so why didn’t the helicopter fly up or down or change its course?”
He added: “Why did he not tell the helicopter monitoring of what it must do instead of asking whether they had seen the plane. This is a bad situation and it seems that it was supposed to be prevented. Not good.”
Relatives of the victims who gathered at the airport complained about the lack of information available from officials regarding the accident, and added that they heard details of the accident from news reports.
“I don’t know if she had climbed to the plane or not,” an airport official told the airport, referring to a passenger on the stricken plane. Then weeping collapsed.
Rescue efforts
The firefighting commander in Washington, DC, John Donlley, at the press conference that at least 300 rescue workers continue to work in a “very complicated” relief operation, said Washington’s fire commander, John Donnelli, at the press conference.
“The conditions are very difficult for rescue workers. The atmosphere is cold. They are dealing with stormy conditions.”
When asked about the presence of survivors, he answered, “We do not know yet.”
An airport official said that the airport will remain closed until 11 am local time at least today, Thursday.
