The US government’s Civil Aviation Agency (FAA) has given Amazon the green light to expand its drone delivery operations in the United States.
The decision rendered by the FAA gives “Prime Air” authorization for the commercial use of drones without their driver having visual contact with the flying machine.
This will allow Amazon to deliver more packages over greater distances.
The company is currently testing their “highly automated” technology in College Station, Texas.
“Later this year, we will begin integrating drones into our delivery network,” Amazon said in a statement.
Amazon plans to deliver more than half a billion packages per year by drone to Uncle Sam’s country by 2030.
On the Canadian side, no indication is given as to a date on which this technology will be tested.
