A mother who allegedly left her two children, aged 6 and 8, to go on a cruise will have to explain herself in court after Texas police found them alone in a topsy-turvy apartment.
“The important thing is that they are safe now and those responsible should be held accountable for leaving these children in an isolated location in a dangerous situation,” Harris County Constable Ted Heap said in a statement Saturday. reported the “New York Post”.
The return from vacation did not go smoothly for Lakesha Woods Williams, 29, who was put in handcuffs Thursday morning upon her return from a cruise of a few days, during which she abandoned her two children at themselves in accommodation.
It was a neighbor worried about the well-being of the children who raised the alarm after a few days, after seeing the woman leave the premises with a suitcase on April 4 without returning afterwards.
During a police visit carried out on April 9, the agents then allegedly found the two children in an apartment “in complete disorder”, strewn with garbage and food from which a “powerful smell of urine” was emanating. indicated the American newspaper based on official documents.
The children aged 6 and 8 then told the agents that their mother had gone on a cruise and that she was communicating with them via a camera placed in the apartment, as well as by text messages with the oldest of the two children, according to the police officers.
The two young victims were examined by emergency and child protection services before being placed in the hands of their aunt, the “NY Post” said.
For her part, the 29-year-old woman was arrested in the morning of April 11, after crossing the threshold with her suitcase during the night, and is reportedly being held on bail of US$40,000.
She now reportedly faces two counts of child endangerment and is expected to meet with a judge on Monday.
