An assistant professor who allegedly sexually assaulted a patient will teach ethics in a university course, the New York Post.
Menachem Kiwak will be the teacher of the class “Professional, Legal and Ethical Issues in Counseling” at Touro University in New York, United States.
Mr. Kiwak was charged with sexual assault, harassment and forcible touching of a woman last May. He is licensed as a mental health counselor. He is also a marriage and family therapist.
“It’s an absolute farce,” another Touro University professor told the American media outlet. The professor said he was surprised to learn that the school allowed him to continue teaching, despite the denunciations.
The man pleaded not guilty and will therefore be able to finish the school year.
The alleged victim had met Mr. Kiwak during a consultation with him, having suffered a sexual assault. She is not a student at Touro University.
She then accused him of forcing her to have sex with him on several occasions.
According to The Postthe man is said to have apologized: “I’m sorry for taking advantage (of you) and making you suffer, for hurting you.”
Former students also allegedly accused him of using vulgar language about sex and discussing pornography in class months before his arrest. He also allegedly claimed that marital rape did not exist.
The university spokesperson told the American media that Kiwak “will not be working this semester.”
However, Mr. Kiwak was still registered Friday as a teacher of the same online course, with about 20 students in the program.
The suspect and his lawyer declined to respond to interview requests from the New York Post.
