A pregnant teacher in New York state, USA, died suddenly after collapsing in the middle of class.

Courtney Fannon, 29, reportedly felt unwell on March 8, shortly after texting her husband Kurtis. She was taken to hospital where she was pronounced dead. Doctors tried to save her child, without success.

The causes of his death are unknown at this time.

The mother-to-be and her partner had already found a name for their first child, who was to be called Hadley Jaye.

“With the passing of Courtney Fannon and Hadley Jaye Fannon, the world lost two beautiful souls long before we were ready to live without them,” wrote Matt Smith, a friend of the husband, on a GoFundMe page created to help the family.

“They left for their final rest on March 8, after a tragic outcome,” he continues. As of Thursday morning, the page had raised $53,000.

Fannon had been teaching special education since 2018.

“Courtney was a dedicated teacher who served her students. She accompanied them with joy and passion every day,” explained Nicholas Picardo, the school’s director.

“When she wasn’t in her classroom sharing her love of teaching, she could be found smiling in the hallways,” he continues.

Matt Smith added in his lengthy GoFundMe post that Kurtis, now a widower, is experiencing “the nightmare of walking into a house full of children’s toys and not being able to care for his daughter.”

Kurtis and Courtney Fannon got married in August 2022 after 10 years of dating. Their daughter was due in four weeks.
