A two-year-old girl was struck to death by a pickup truck on Saturday after a three-year-old child, left alone in the vehicle, climbed behind the wheel in California.
The sad accident occurred around 3:45 p.m. while Ailahni Sanchez Martinez was sitting at a table, CBS News said. In the Dodge vehicle, authorities found a child.
According to information from the Woodland Police Department, the owner of the van left the engine running before entering a gas station. The child who would have been left in the back seat would have climbed into the front of the vehicle causing it to roll forward.
The victim was transported to hospital, where he died of his injuries, the police force said on Facebook.
“Everyone involved has cooperated with this investigation. No arrests have been made. We are working to ensure a thorough investigation is completed… We ask for the community’s patience while this occurs. The completed investigation will be forwarded to the district attorney’s office for review,” local police added.
