(New York) An American judge ordered the cancellation of funding imposed by the Trump administration at Harvard University on Wednesday, notably accused in particular of not having sufficiently protected its Jewish students.
“The court cancels and dismisses” the decisions made to this effect by the administration, considering them constitutive of a “violation of the first amendment” of the Constitution, said Federal Judge of Boston Allison Burroughs in his order.
Since his return to Maison Blanche last January, Donald Trump accuses the dean of American universities of serving as a pool for the ideology “Woke”, a term often diverted by the conservatives to qualify for progressive ideas.
He also accuses him of not having sufficiently protected his Jewish or Israeli students during demonstrations on the campus for a cease-fire in the Gaza Strip.
In retaliation, his government has withdrawn from Harvard just over 2.6 billion dollars in federal subsidies, including in the health field, and revoked its Sevis certification, the main system by which foreign students are authorized to study in the United States.
Seizure of an appeal by the university, the judge notes in her decision that “anti -Semitism, like other forms of discrimination or prejudice, is intolerable. And it is clear, by Harvard’s own admission, that the university has been prey to anti -Semitism in recent years and could have (and had to) better deal with this problem. ”
But in “reality, there is little connection between the areas of research affected by granting gels and anti -Semitism”, continues the text.
It accuses the administration of having “used anti -Semitism as a smoke screen to carry out a targeted and ideologically motivated attack against the most prestigious universities in the country”.
