(Miami) A Florida judge prohibited the Trump administration on Thursday and the Florida authorities from holding new migrants in the detention center nicknamed the “Alcatraz des Alligators” and ordered them to withdraw numerous equipment within 60 days, meaning its long -term closure.

Posted at 10:59 p.m.

In the wake of the decision, the Florida authorities announced to appeal.

The detention center had been mounted in June in June with bunk beds, wireless cages, and white canvas pavilions, all on an abandoned aerodrome in the middle of the swamps of the Everglades.

The White House and the Local Authorities nicknamed it the “Alcatraz of the Alligators”, in reference to the former Prison Island of the Baie de San Francisco that Donald Trump also plans to reopen.

Some 3,000 places were planned in Florida, said the Minister of Homeland Security Kristi Noem.

But the center has angered environmental associations-the Everglades being a protected area of human rights defenders.

The decision Thursday of judge Kathleen Williams follows a procedure brought by two associations, Friends of the Everglades and Center for Biological Diversity, which consider that the center threatens the fragile ecosystem of the surrounding swamps and was built without studies of environmental impact.

In early August, the judge had already ordered the temporary suspension of any new construction in the center.

This time, it enjoins the Trump administration and the state of Florida-governed by the Republican Ron Desantis-to remove within 60 days all the temporary fences installed for the center, but also all lighting, generators and wastewater treatment and wastewater treatment systems.

It also forbids “to bring any new person to the site who was not already detained on the spot when this order took effect”.

The “Alcatraz of the Alligators” has become one of the symbols of Donald Trump’s repressive migration policy.

Several migrants detained in the center showed AFP with appalling conditions of detention.

“Even an animal would not be treated as well. This is torture, “said Luis Gonzales, joined by AFP on the phone, from the center, saying to share a cell rarely cleaned with around thirty people, in scorching conditions by day and icy at night, among omnipresent mosquitoes.
