British businessman del Vince, in an article published by the “Guardian” newspaper, demanded that greater taxes on the world’s wealthy to address obscene richness, achieve social justice and reduce the impact of billionaires on governments and the media.
The British businessman – one of the most prominent investors in alternative energies – says that he signed alongside more than 370 million million countries, a message calling on the leaders of the world to impose taxes on people with wealth with the aim of facing the consequences of obscene wealth.
He said that this message was delivered to the World Economic Forum in Davos, which was attended by more than 60 heads of state and government, including Donald Trump, who participated on the Internet, days after his inauguration as President of the United States.
Oncers and its impact on the public interest
The writer explained that the reason for his signature on this message is that over the past weeks he noticed the size of the influence that the United States has practiced on the media and the political scene in the United Kingdom.
The writer stated that the most prominent of these personalities is Elon Musk, who pumped a quarter of a billion dollars in the Trump election campaign, and his total wealth increased during the last period by 170 billion dollars, and he has now decided to transfer his attention from the United States to the United Kingdom.
Musk published through his personal account on “X” a series of publications that dealt with multiple topics related to the United Kingdom, such as his volatile relationship with the right -wing Nigel Faraj, leader of the UK Reform Party, and a poll on the possibility of “liberating” the United Kingdom from its authoritarian government.
According to the writer, Musk is expected to contribute with a group of billionaires to donate huge sums to the UK Reform Party, which is legal if it is through his companies in the United Kingdom.
He explained that Musk also aspires to have the Liverpool Football Club, according to his father, and that media reports indicate the possibility of Tik Tuk soon joining the Musk Master’s digital.
The writer considered that Mark Zuckerberg, who recently announced some restrictions on publications on various dead platforms, claiming to defend “freedom of expression”, in fact defending the matter of “freedom of lying”, as he put it.
The writer believes that what we are currently witnessing is a new phenomenon represented in the tolerance of countries with the people of obscene wealth crossing the borders, and the absence of any control over their activities, adding that the focus of wealth and power has become a clear threat to democracy.
Challenges associated with huge wealth
The writer stated that the wealth of billionaires increased by one trillion dollars last year, which is equivalent to about 5.7 billion dollars per day, at a rate of 3 times faster than the year before.
He stressed that this growth in wealth coincides with stability in the number of poor people globally since 1990, which reflects the increasing disparity between the rich and the rest of society.
The writer pointed out that these numbers represent a clear warning of the consequences of the widening gap between the rich and the poor, adding that the investment of the wealthy in politics, traditional media and social media platforms threatens democracy and the future of humanity as a whole.
The writer stressed the need to move to reduce the impact of money in politics and the media, reform the ownership of the media, and impose censorship on social media.
He added that the financing of political parties should be public to reduce the impact of donors in the political scene, and he said that as a wealthy businessman and a political donor who does not see any embarrassment or contradiction in demanding that millionaires pay major taxes.
He considered that the interest of the real countries lies in investing in the workforce, sustainable infrastructure, stable legal systems, advanced health structure, ensuring opportunities for all, and not only for a few rich.
The writer concluded that it is fair to pay the wealthy, the largest beneficiaries of economic growth, a share of taxes that are equivalent to their profits.
It is noteworthy that a study published by Oxfam Development Organization last Monday revealed that the number of billionaires in the world reached 2769 billionaires in 2024, an increase of 204 billionaires compared to the previous year.
Meanwhile, the number of people living below the poverty line set by the World Bank remained fixed, while the number of people suffering from hunger increased.
Oxfam expected that there will be at least 5 people around the world whose wealth will be trillion dollars after 10 years.
