According to the CNN network, it hit the synagogue before the exchange of fire. A large quantity of explosives was found in his vehicle, claims the channel, which relies on sources.
“At least one individual showed up at the temple. Security officers spotted him and an exchange of fire ensued,” Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard told CNN.
“At this time, no one has been confirmed injured, except potentially the shooter,” he added.
“We’ve been talking for two weeks about the possibility, unfortunately, of this happening. So there was no lack of preparation,” added the sheriff, in an allusion to the armed offensive of the United States and Israel on Iran.

Numerous police officers were dispatched to the scene.
“I’m following reports of a shooting in progress at Temple Israel in West Bloomfield. We are working with the Michigan State Police to obtain more information,” Governor Gretchen Whitmer wrote on X.
“It’s heartbreaking. Michigan’s Jewish community must be able to live and practice their faith in peace. Anti-Semitism and violence have no place in Michigan,” she adds.
Videos on social networks and television stations across the country showed a building presented as the Temple Israel synagogue from which black smoke was escaping, and very large police forces mobilized.
Anti-Semitic incidents and attacks have increased in recent years in the United States.
In May 2025, a gunman opened fire in front of the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington, killing two Israeli embassy staff members.
