(Washington) A van forced security barriers near the White House, police told AFP, who arrested the driver of the vehicle.

The latter crossed a barricade at an intersection very close to the White House at dawn Wednesday morning, authorities said, stressing that no injuries had been reported.
“The driver was arrested and is currently being questioned,” said the Secret Service, which ensures the security of high-ranking American personalities.

Bomb squads inspected the vehicle and declared the area safe.
After being briefly closed to traffic, nearby streets were reopened.
