(Washington) Journalist Don Lemon was arrested after filming anti-immigration protesters disrupting a church service at a Minnesota church – an incident that heightened tensions between residents and the Trump administration.

Don Lemon was arrested by federal agents in Los Angeles, where he was covering the Grammy awards ceremony, his lawyer, Abbe Lowell, said Friday.
The charges against the journalist following the January 18 demonstration are currently unknown. This arrest follows last week’s rejection by an investigating judge of the prosecutor’s initial request to charge the journalist.
Don Lemon, who was fired from CNN in 2023, claims to have no connection to the organization that entered the church and that he was there as a journalist, covering the events.
“Don has been a journalist for 30 years, and his constitutionally protected work in Minneapolis is no different than what he has always done,” said Abbe Lowell. The First Amendment protects journalists whose role is to uncover the truth and hold the powerful to account. »
“Don will vigorously and aggressively contest these charges in court,” he added.
A civil rights lawyer and two others involved in the protest were arrested last week. Prosecutors are charging them with civil rights violations for disrupting a church service at Cities Church in St. Paul, where a local U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) official serves as pastor.
