While this left-wing figure was speaking from behind a lectern, a man came forward and sprayed an unidentified liquid in his direction using a syringe, before being arrested by a security agent, AFP journalists noted.
“Minneapolis security and police quickly arrested the individual, who is now detained,” the elected official’s office said in a statement. “The chosen one is fine. She continued her public meeting because she doesn’t let the little bullies win.”
She held this event in her city of Minneapolis, a city shaken for weeks by immigration police operations (ICE) and the death of two people opposing them.
“We’re going to move on, these assholes aren’t going to get away with this,” she said a few seconds later, and after asking for a towel.
“We must once and for all abolish” ICE, the target of the protests in Minneapolis, and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem “must resign,” she told the crowd beforehand.

Ilhan Omar, a figure of the American left of Somali origin, has long been a favorite target of the American right and particularly of Donald Trump.
The president mentioned it again Tuesday in a speech in Iowa. “She comes from a country that is a disaster, it’s not even a country, frankly,” said Donald Trump, who has been increasing attacks against Somalia for months.
