(Washington) The US Department of Justice said Monday that more than two million files potentially relating to the Epstein affair have not yet been made public.

The US government was required to release all documents relating to the Epstein case as of December 19, but ultimately only released approximately 12,285 documents totaling 125,575 pages, according to an update from New York prosecutor Jay Clayton.

“More than 2 million documents (…) remain at various stages of their examination and publication,” wrote Jay Clayton in this five-page update consulted by AFP.

On December 24, the US Department of Justice announced that it was examining “more than a million documents” potentially linked to the Epstein affair for possible release, which could take “several weeks”.

Prosecutor Clayton said more than 400 Justice Department lawyers are expected to spend “the next few weeks” reviewing these files.

“This is a significant volume of documents, and the types, sizes and shapes of the documents remaining to be reviewed vary considerably,” he noted before emphasizing that “careful efforts” must be made to protect Epstein’s victims from any inappropriate disclosure of their identity or private information.

The Trump administration has been accused of cover-up by the Democratic opposition, which accuses it of only handing out the pieces of the enormous file in dribs and drabs, after having heavily redacted them.

This image, released on December 19, 2025, shows drawers and framed photos, including one of Donald Trump, in Jeffrey Epstein’s New York residence.

A law passed by Democrats and Republicans obliges the government, which this affair embarrasses to the highest degree because of the past friendly relationship between Donald Trump and Jeffrey Epstein, to publish the entire file.

The first series of published documents shed light on the spectacular network of Jeffrey Epstein, who committed suicide, according to authorities, before being tried in New York for sexual exploitation of minors.

They also provided details of the relationship he had with Donald Trump, in particular an email from an investigator indicating that the 79-year-old Republican would have traveled eight times on Jeffrey Epstein’s private plane.

The American president has never been accused of criminal acts in connection with the Epstein affair.
