(Washington) The US Department of Justice on Friday made public some of the documents – many of them redacted – from the investigation into sex criminal Jeffrey Epstein, known for his relationships with influential figures, including Donald Trump.

They must help shed light on the links of the influential financier who died in prison in 2019 with personalities from the world of business, entertainment or politics.
A law passed by Congress in November required the government to release all unclassified documents in its possession by Friday. But the process will ultimately take place over several weeks, said Todd Blanche, number two at the Justice Department.
Furthermore, large passages are hidden, including a list of 254 “masseuses” with names redacted “to protect the victim”, or the 119 pages of a legal document from a New York court, redacted without explanation.
At the origin of the law forcing the Trump administration to disclose all of these documents, elected officials Ro Khanna and Thomas Massie, a Democrat and a Republican, regretted that the Department of Justice had “not respected” what was asked of it.

“This is nothing other than a cover-up to protect Donald Trump from his less than stellar past,” thundered the leader of the Democratic senators, Chuck Schumer, accusing the government of “doing everything to hide the truth.”
Questioned by the press on Friday evening, the American president did not make any comment.

Among the documents released are photos showing Jeffrey Epstein in the company of celebrities such as singers Michael Jackson and Mick Jagger.
There are also dozens of censored images of naked or largely undressed people and photos of the financier and other individuals with masked faces and firearms.
The businessman’s proximity to a number of socialites was, however, already known, notably with former Democratic President Bill Clinton, who appears in several photos.

“Bill Clinton relaxes, without any worries. He didn’t suspect anything,” Steven Cheung, the White House communications director, reacted on X.

Donald Trump had promised, during his campaign in 2024, total transparency in this matter, but, for months after his election, he did not keep his promise, describing the affair as a “hoax” exploited by the Democratic opposition, to the great dismay of his “MAGA” base, obsessed by this scandal.

The president ultimately backed down under pressure from Congress and signed into law forcing his administration to release these documents.
A figure of the New York jet set, Jeffrey Epstein is accused of having sexually exploited more than a thousand young women, including minors.
This affair has splashed several celebrities, including Andrew, brother of King Charles III, incriminated by one of the victims but who proclaims his innocence.
The financier’s death in prison before his trial, considered a suicide by authorities, has fueled countless conspiracy theories that he was murdered to prevent him from implicating elites who benefited from his crimes.

Once close to the financier with whom he moved in the same circles, Donald Trump has always denied having any knowledge of his criminal behavior and claims to have broken up with him long before he was concerned by the courts.
Jeffrey Epstein’s former partner, Ghislaine Maxwell, 63, who is serving a 20-year prison sentence, is the only person to have been convicted in the case.
Todd Blanche warned Friday that no new indictments should be expected.
