(New York) Asked on Sunday whether he still thought Donald Trump was a “fascist” after a particularly relaxed meeting with him at the White House, New York Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani responded in the affirmative.
“It’s something I’ve said in the past, I’m saying it today,” declared the elected Democrat in an interview on the NBC news channel.
Friday in the Oval Office, when a journalist asked Zohran Mamdani if he thought the American president was a fascist, the latter intervened with his guest: “It’s OK, you can answer yes… It’s simpler than explaining.”
“What I appreciated about the conversation I had with the president is that we did not hesitate to address our points of disagreement,” he said again on NBC.
“I found that the meeting (…) was productive, and that it constantly returned to the central themes of the campaign that we led: the cost of housing, the cost of childcare, the cost of shopping, the cost of public services,” also judged the elected mayor, who will take office on 1er January 2026.
After threatening to cut off federal funds to the city and send the National Guard there if the “communist” Zohran Mamdani won, Donald Trump promised on Friday to help him in his task. “The more he succeeds, the happier I will be,” assured the American president.
