(Washington) Marjorie Taylor Greene, former ally of Donald Trump and figure of the radical right, announced Friday that she was resigning from her seat in the House of Representatives, after openly criticizing the handling of the Epstein affair by the American president.
“I will resign from office on January 5, 2026,” the Georgia elected official said in a statement on the social network
In a video posted online, she also said, among other things, that she had “always been looked down upon in Washington and never fit in.”
Donald Trump publicly broke with this long-time ally and figure in the MAGA (Make America Great Again) movement, calling her “Marjorie “The Traitor” Greene” and “Maggie “the Crazy””, after criticism from the elected official on her management of the Epstein affair, named after the New York financier who died in prison in 2019 before his trial for sex crimes.
The position of Donald Trump, who frequented the financier, on this affair has sowed division in the usually loyal Republican camp.
After having opposed it for a long time, Donald Trump promulgated a law which forced his government to make public all the documents in the Epstein affair.
However, the extent of the revelations to be expected remains unclear.
The American president has always denied having any knowledge of the criminal behavior of the man with whom he was close before falling out in the 2000s, claiming that their argument took place years before these crimes came to light.
