(United Nations) The White House spokesperson called on Tuesday to “immediately send back anyone who would have caused the untimely stop of a mechanical staircase when Donald Trump arrives at the United Nations headquarters in New York.

Posted at 5:10 p.m.

“If someone in the UN deliberately stopped the mechanical staircase when the president and the first lady borrowed him, they must be returned immediately and trigger an investigation,” asked Karoline Leavitt on X.

“The security mechanism was inadvertently activated by someone who was in front of the president,” said Stéphane Dujarric, spokesperson for the United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres, indicating that the machine was then put back in service.

Donald Trump, before delivering his speech to the UN General Assembly, went behind his wife Melania Trump on a mechanical staircase which almost immediately stopped.

The American president and the First Lady kept balance while standing at the ramp. They then climbed the steps.

The incident has greatly displeased Donald Trump, very sensitive to any hung during his public appearances.

“The two things I had of the United Nations are a faulty mechanical staircase and a failing televimmer,” he quipped during his speech, referring to another technical incident that occurred at the start of his intervention.

“We have no comments since the televimmer for the American president is managed by the White House,” said the spokesman for the UN chief.

Donald Trump then complained about these failures in a message on his Truth Social network.

Under his message on X, Karoline Leavitt reproduced an extract from an article in the newspaper The Timesaccording to which United Nations employees joked the possibility of blocking mechanical stairs and elevators when the American president arrives.
