(Washington) The White House launched its Tiktok account on Tuesday, while the social network remains under the threat of a ban in the United States if its Chinese owner does not abandon control.
For its first publication on the social network, the official account of the White House shared a 27-second video showing extracts from the American president with writing, in legend: “America is back!” What’s new Tiktok? »»
“Welcome to the golden age of America,” it is also written, in description of the account.
Three hours after the publication of the video, the official house account had more than 25,000 subscribers. Donald Trump’s personal account has more than 110 million, although the president has not published on Tiktok since November 5, 2024, the day of the American presidential election.
Tiktok is owned by the Chinese company bytedance. Under a law passed at the Congress in 2024, the social network remains under a ban in the United States if it does not give in control.
Republican elected officials and Democrats then said they are concerned about the use of data by China or an attempt to influence American opinion.
But Donald Trump repeatedly pushed the ultimatum from the sale of the social network, very popular in the United States, the president having confided having “a small weakness for Tiktok”.
The deadline for its sale is currently set for September 17.
