(Washington) Ghislaine Maxwell, the ex-girlfriend of Jeffrey Epstein, was transferred from a federal prison in Florida to a prison camp in Texas, his criminal affair aroused a renewed interest in the public.
The federal prisons office announced on Friday that Mme Maxwell had been transferred to Bryan, Texas, without however explaining the circumstances. His lawyer confirmed this transfer, but refused to specify the reasons.
Ghislaine Maxwell was found guilty in 2021 to have helped Epstein to commit sexual abuse on minors and sentenced to 20 years in prison. She was detained in a prison in Tallahassee, Florida, until her transfer to this camp in Texas.
The federal minimum security prisoners camps welcome prisoners that the prison office considers the lowest security risk. Some are not even fenced.
The penitentiary camps were initially designed with a low level of security in order to facilitate operations and allow prisoners responsible for penitentiary work, such as landscaping and maintenance, to avoid repeated entries and outputs from a main penitentiary establishment.
The Maxwell case has aroused strong public attention since the indignation caused by the announcement of the Department of Justice last month, as it would not publish any additional document relating to the Epstein sex traffic survey.
Since then, administration officials have attempted to promote transparency in this case, in particular by requesting the publication of the Grand Jury transcriptions.
Ghislaine Maxwell was auditioned for two days in a Florida court last week by deputy prosecutor Todd Blanche.
The supervisory commission of the House of Representatives of the United States also indicated that he wanted to speak with Mme Maxwell. Her lawyers said this week that she would be open to an interview, but only if the commission granted him the immunity of proceedings for his revelations.
