(Washington) Six months after Donald Trump’s return to the White House, the severe migration policy of the Republican President has lost the support of the majority of Americans, according to two polls published on Sunday.
According to a survey commissioned by the CNN channel, 55 % of those questioned believe that the expulsions of migrants led by the Trump administration “go too far”. An increase of ten points compared to a previous investigation carried out in February.
A majority of respondents – 57 % – is said to be opposed to the creation of tens of thousands of places in detention centers, against 26 % that support them.
Another survey carried out for the CBS channel establishes that 56 % of those questioned estimate that the Trump administration targets migrants in priority which are not “dangerous criminals”, against 47 % a month earlier.
According to the same survey, 49 % approve the radical migratory measures wanted by Donald Trump, down ten points compared to February, and five compared to June.
Among the republican sympathizers, on the other hand, support for massive evictions remains almost unanimous, up to 91 %.
Donald Trump made the fight against illegal immigration one of the priorities of his second term and defends a hard line since his return to power in January.
He welcomed on Sunday, in a message published on his social social platform for having “completely revived a large country” in “six months”.
