(Washington) Donald Trump suffers from chronic venous insufficiency, the White House announced on Thursday, after the 79-year-old American president reported “light swelling from the bottom of his legs”, a current pathology at his age.

“In -depth” examinations have revealed this circulatory problem, which leads to an accumulation of blood in the lower limbs.

The White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt described this affection as “benign and current, particularly in individuals over 70”, before clarifying that no “deep venous thrombosis or arterial disease” had been discovered.

Specialist in internal medicine in Tucson (Arizona), Matt Heinz confirms to AFP that chronic venous insufficiency is “fairly common” in particular in elderly subjects. It results from a lesser effectiveness of the venous valves, which are used to redirect blood to the heart, due to aging, obesity or inactivity, he explains.

If he “does not want to say that it is nothing at all”, “his case does not seem to require invasive treatments”, such as the surgical replacement of valves, estimates the hospital doctor.

A stain that looks like a bruise on Donald Trump’s hand in a photo taken yesterday at the White House.

“Rather, it is a question of compression, activity, and perhaps losing a little more weight,” advises Matt Heinz. “No more activity does not mean driving in golf cart, that means walking,” he said.

All the results of Donald Trump’s exams “were under the standards” and “the president remains in excellent health,” said Karoline Leavitt.

Bruising

The White House spokesperson also responded to growing speculations on social networks around a possible health problem of the Republican president, after the publication of photos showing bruises on his hands.

According to her, they are the associated consequence “of frequent handshakes” and its aspirin intake, “as part of a standard cardiovascular preventive prescription”.

In January, Donald Trump became the oldest president to enter into the history of the United States, replacing Joe Biden, who had left power at 82.

The republican billionaire frequently boasts of being “in great shape” and his services have even recently published an image showing him in Superman.

In April, the White House medical team described it as “excellent cognitive and physical health” after their first medical visit since their return to power.

Donald Trump regularly accuses the entourage of Joe Biden, who beat him in 2020, of having sought to hide the decline of the octogenarian democratic president.

Joe Biden had retired late from the 2024 presidential race, against a background of concerns about his state of health after a calamitous debate against Donald Trump.

In May, prostate cancer was diagnosed with the former Democratic president.
