In mid-June, the impostor created a signal account with, as a username, “[email protected]”. He “sent vocal messages to at least two people targeted”, according to the cable.
The content of the messages remain unknown.
According to the document, the identity of other employees of the State Department was also usurped using email addresses.
The State Department declared that Washington Post That he “would conduct an in -depth investigation and would continue to implement protective measures to prevent this from happening again in the future”.
The FBI, the federal police, has warned against “malicious actors” who, since April, usurp the identity of senior American officials to target their contacts, in particular former federal agents.
“The malicious actors have sent texts and vocal messages generated by the IA -Technics known as” SMISHING “and” VISHING ” -which claim to come from a senior American civil servant in order to establish a first contact before accessing personal accounts,” said the FBI in May.
In May, President Donald Trump revealed that the phone of Susie Wiles, the White House Cabinet, had been infiltrated. And according to the Wall Street JournalSenators, governors and American business leaders had then received messages and calls from a person pretending to be Susie Wiles.
If this led to an investigation of the FBI and the White House, the American president however minimized the threat, ensuring that Susie Wiles was “an incredible woman”, who could “manage” the situation.
