(Los Angeles) The firefighters, who have been fighting for five days against a gigantic forest fire in California, progressed on Monday against the flames, six months after the devastating fires that traumatized Los Angeles.

The 1400 firefighters mobilized to fight against the “Madre Fire”, the largest forest fire since the start of the year, have circumscribed 30 % of the fire, announced the department of firefighters in California (Calfire).

“The firefighters have made great progress on the outside perimeter of the fire,” he said, noting, however, that the flames continue to move forward, fed by an abundance of branches and dry vegetation.

The fire has already consumed more than 32,500 hectares, mainly vegetation, and destroys a building, according to the latest firefighters.

About 200 people had an evacuation order due to the progress of the flames, which also threaten 50 buildings.

A firefighter was injured, Calfire reported.

The “Madre Fire”, the origin of which is the subject of an investigation, started on Wednesday afternoon near an important road axis in the county of San Luis Obispo, about 350 kilometers north of Los Angeles.

The California firefighter department reported that it had to fight, in a single day last week, more than 65 forest fires in the state, where “warmer and drier” climatic conditions are expected in the coming days.

These fires occur when US President Donald Trump cuts federal agencies responsible for fighting climatic disasters.

The state is barely recovering from the fires that devastated Los Angeles and caused the death of 30 people in January. These fires devoured 16,000 hectares and destroyed thousands of homes.
