(Washington) Washington began the deployment of 200 navies in Florida on Thursday to provide administrative and logistical support to the anti-migrant raids of the Federal Immigration Police (ICE) in this American state, the army announced.
This deployment is the first in a series requested by the Department of Internal Security to help ICE implement the policy of President Donald Trump in the fight against immigration.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth approved the mobilization of nearly 700 soldiers and deployments in Texas and Louisiana in the southern United States, officials.
“About 200 navies (…) are in motion towards Florida” to support the ICE, announced the northern command of the United States in a press release.
“The members of the armed forces participating in this mission will carry out tasks strictly other than those relating to the maintenance of order”, that is to say “administrative and logistical”, and “they will (will have) the specific prohibition to enter into direct contact with individuals placed in pre-trial detention by the ICE”, of the same source.
These navies will also remain “in the premises of the ICE”.
Earlier this week, Donald Trump visited a new Florida retention center nicknamed the “Alcatraz des Alligators” both by the White House and by the Local Authorities. It can accommodate up to 1000 people.
In June the Republican leader had sent 4,000 members of the National Guard and 700 navies to Los Angeles, in response to demonstrations against ICE raids in the Californian agglomeration.
Local officials had criticized the army decided by Donald Trump, deemed necessary by the American president to protect buildings and federal services.
