(Sydney) The Australian Prime Minister denounced Tuesday the “horrible” shot targeting an Australian television journalist who covered demonstrations in Los Angeles on Sunday.
In full live, Lauren Tomasi, correspondent for the Australian chain 9 news, was touched in the leg by a rubber bullet.
The journalist “is fine. I must say that it is very solid, but these images are horrible, “said Prime Minister Anthony Albanese before journalists after having maintained himself with Mme Tomasi.
The video on which Lauren Tomasi appears at the time of the facts shows that it was “clearly identified” as a journalist “without ambiguity”, said the Prime Minister. “We cannot find it acceptable that this has happened and we think that the role of the media is particularly important”.
Albanese said his government had mentioned the problem with the American administration, but that he would not comment on a future discussion with US President Donald Trump.
Donald Trump muscled his response to clashes between police and demonstrators in Los Angeles on Monday by deploying soldiers from the Marine Corps and by calling for 2,000 additional reservists, after several days of demonstrations in the streets, triggered by dozens of arrests related to immigration.
