Donald Trump gives a layer. He demanded, on Monday, the sending of 2,000 additional members of the National Guard to Los Angeles, to which some 700 marine members will be added. These decisions, widely criticized by the Californian authorities and opponents of the president, follow three days of clashes between the police and demonstrators opposed to migration policy.

What to know

  • Donald Trump orders the sending of 2,000 members of the National Guard to Los Angeles, the double of the number already announced.
  • The National Guard is made up of part -time soldiers, who generally respond to natural disasters.
  • The president believes that Los Angeles has lost control of demonstrations against raids carried out by agents of immigration and customs services (ICE).
  • ICE agents aim to expel irregular residents.

Marine members “will be deployed in Los Angeles to help protect federal officials and buildings,” said Donald Trump. These soldiers could start to arrive on Tuesday, according to a defense official quoted by CBS.

Since Friday, demonstrators have been protested against the raids of immigration and customs (ICE) agents in the streets of Los Angeles. Tension climbed a notch on Sunday, leading to clashes. Members of the National Guard have pulled tear gas and rubber bullets on demonstrators. On the other hand, they burnt down vehicles and launched objects towards the authorities.

Traces of the violent clashes of the day before were everywhere in the city. Above, a burned vehicle is removed from the road.

“If they spit, we hit, and I promise you that we will hit like never before,” said Donald Trump for demonstrators on Monday, that he nicknamed “insurgents”. To believe the highest official in the United States, Los Angeles would have been “scratched from the card”, would not have been sending the National Guard to the city.

Around noon on Monday, around 1,000 members of the National Guard were in Los Angeles. An equivalent number was to arrive before the end of the day.

Stand -off

The California Attorney General Rob Bonta was quick to react. He continued the Trump administration in justice, since she sent the National Guard without the approval of Governor Gavin Newsom.

The deployment of soldiers in California satisfies “the crazy fantasy of a dictatorial president”, also considers Mr. Newsom. “Cancel the prescription. Rest for control in California, “said Newsom at the White House in a publication on X on Monday. The sending of troops, “illegal and immoral”, only causes “no more fear, more anger, to divide more,” he deplored in an interview with the New York Times.

Faced with the obvious disagreement of Gavin Newsom compared to his military deployment, Donald Trump launched on Monday that it would be “great” to stop him, without anyone knowing if it is a provocation or real intention.

“The President of the United States has just requested the arrest of an in-office. It was a day that I hoped never to see in America, ”replied Newsom, in a publication on X.

The day after watch

On Monday, a fire of fire floated in the air in Los Angeles. Casters jumped the streets, with the leftovers of charred cars. Teams erased the graffiti covering buildings in the city center. During the weekend, more than 600 rubber bullets were launched to the demonstrators, confirmed the Los Angeles police.

New events have been held. A large crowd gathered in a park against the town hall to protest against the arrest of an important union leader, David Huerta.

Their signs castigated President Trump and Ice. Union leaders from all of California led the crowd while chanting “Free Huerta!” ». The latter was released in exchange for a deposit of $ 50,000 during the day.

The perimeter of the demonstrations only concerns “a few streets”, said the mayor of Los Angeles, Karen Bass, on the waves of CNN. “These are not civilian disorders on the city level,” she said.

Like the day before, other demonstrators posted in front of a city of federal detention in the city, where people were detained following raids of ICE agents.

These agents particularly target Los Angeles, on the orders of Donald Trump. There is the most important Hispanophone community in the United States. ICE operations led to the arrest of around forty Mexican nationals, confirmed the Mexican authorities.

Towards a movement?

Solidarity demonstrations against ICE raids have been held in other cities in the United States, notably in San Francisco, where the police carried out more than 150 arrests on Sunday evening. All those concerned were released and quoted to appear, except one.

A dozen demonstrations were planned in New York, especially at the Manhattan Trump Tower. The mayor of New York, Eric Adams, warned that the police would not tolerate the type of confrontations that had broken out elsewhere.
