Moroccan Energy Transition Minister Laila Benali said that the budget of the African Atlantic African Gas Tube project extending from Morocco to Nigeria exceeds $ 25 billion.

The Minister stated -in a speech to the House of Advisors (the second chamber in Parliament) yesterday in the capital, Rabat -that the project “is a catalyst for economic, industrial and digital development, and a deliberation to create job opportunities, and a pillar to transform Morocco into a main corridor linking Europe and Africa and the Atlantic basin.”

She explained that the project will provide an infrastructure that extends over a distance of 6 thousand kilometers, passing through several African countries, with a capacity ranging between 15 and 30 billion cubic meters of gas annually, noting that the project will enable the delivery of energy to about 400 million people in 13 countries.

The Moroccan minister said, “Work is currently underway to make a partnership between the Moroccan and Nigerian sides, in addition to preparing for the final investment decision, which is expected to be issued by the end of 2025,” the Moroccan minister said.

The agreement on the gas pipeline project linking Morocco and Nigeria is due to a state visit by the King of Morocco Mohamed VI to Nigeria in December 2016.

The tube will pass by Benin, Togo, Ghana, Cote d’Ivoire, Liberia and Sierra Leone, in addition to Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Gambia, Senegal and Mauritania.
