Pesent said in an interview with Fox News that the United States and China should work to calm tension before we can move forward in trade negotiations.
He added: “I think it is a matter of calming tension, not the major trade agreement … We have to calm tension before we can move forward.”
He pointed out that the administration of President Donald Trump does not want to cancel trade ties with China in textiles and other similar goods, but Washington is determined to reproduce strategic industries such as semiconductors, medicines and steel to the United States.

For its part, the Ministry of Trade in Beijing pledged that it would “defend the principles of justice” and adhere to it during the talks.
“If the United States wants to resolve the issue through negotiations, it must acknowledge the serious negative effects of the actions that it took individually and for customs decisions on itself and the world,” said the ministry spokesman.
