The number of foreign tourists in the United States decreased by 12% last March compared to the same month last year, the Washington Post reported in a report.
The report, which was published on Friday, quoting the data of the International Trade Department, which is part of the US Department of Commerce, stated that the number of tourists from Germany decreased more severely, by 28% in March.
After a 2% decrease in February, this was the first significant decrease since the Korona pandemic, the newspaper said.
Experts said that if this trend continues to decline, it means losses of the tourism industry in the United States by billions of dollars.
The data showed a 17% decrease in the number of tourists from Western Europe, 24% from Central America, and 11% from China in March.
Foreign tourists are concerned about a series of arrests when the United States, including cases of German citizens, entered, as individuals were prevented from entering full documents. In some cases, some people were detained in deportation facilities for days or weeks.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio recently sought to calm concerns about the problems of entering the United States.
He added that those who travel to the United States other than participating in a demonstration to support the Palestinian Hamas movement, and without inciting universities in universities, or planning disturbances, have nothing to fear.
Tourism expert Adam Sachs told the Washington Post that international travelers ’decision to avoid the United States was expected, and this was attributed to division policy and disciplinary speeches from the administration of US President Donald Trump.
The newspaper stated that the full number of tourists has not been disclosed yet, as data from the two countries of Mexico and Canada are still incomplete.
After Mexico and Canada, most tourists come to the United States usually from France, Germany, Italy, Spain, the United Kingdom, Japan, South Korea, China and India.
