US President Donald Trump said he does not intend to suspend the reciprocal customs duties he announced last week despite international objections to them.
Trump talked about many countries seeking deals with his country. Trump gave China to the end of Tuesday to cancel its counter -actions before imposing additional fees on it.
In an interview with yesterday night from the White House, Trump said, “Many countries will come to negotiate with us to make fair deals, and in some cases they will pay exorbitant customs duties.”
He added, “I spoke this morning (Monday) with the Prime Minister of Japan and I told him one thing: You have to open your country in front of our products, as we did not stem any cars in Japan while you have exported millions of them to our country.”
In the context of his speech, Trump said, “As for China, it imposed on us additional customs duties of 34%. I told them if they did not cancel the new acquaintances by Wednesday, we will impose an additional tariff of 50%on the Chinese revenues,” which may raise the total additional American definitions on Chinese goods this year to 104%.
Chinese response
For its part, the Chinese Foreign Ministry expressed its rejection of what it described as pressure, extortion and threats to it.
She said that Washington’s measures are not prepared for serious talks, and the Chinese Foreign Ministry described US customs duties as a commercial war, and that China will take measures on them and fight to the end.
A statement by the Chinese Ministry of Commerce confirmed that Beijing would not be acquired for the threats of the US President on customs duties and will take counter measures.
Yesterday, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman said that threats and pressure are not the proper way to deal with his country after he described the customs duties imposed by the US President as bullying.
The spokesman Lyn Jian added in a periodic press conference, that customs duties are “a model for monochromatic action and economic protection and bullying policies”, and pointed out that the American customs duties imposed in the name of reciprocity only serve Washington’s interest at the expense of the interests of other countries.
“The abuse of the United States exploiting customs duties amounts to depriving states, especially the countries of the southern world, of their right to development,” noting the widening gap between the rich and the poor in every country and the suffering of the least advanced countries from a greater negative impact.
He added: All countries should support consultation and “real pluralism”.
Lynn also urged countries to participate in opposing all forms of unilaterals and economic protection policies, protecting the international system and the multilateral trade system in accordance with the values of the United Nations and the World Trade Organization.
European position
In turn, the European Union ministers expressed their regret over the customs duties imposed by the United States. During their meeting in Luxembourg, they stressed that they will remain united to defend the economic interests of the Union.
The Commercial Policy Commissioner said at the end of the meeting that the Union would impose counterfeit fees on the United States, starting in the middle of this month.
Robert Habik, German Vice -Chancellor and Minister of Economy, said America is in a weak position. They see that they are in a weak situation as long as Europe is united/ countries must not try to negotiate for their own interests, because this will fail.
He added that this force must multiply by ensuring that Europe, as a unified entity, deal with other countries in the trade policy and the conclusion of trade agreements. Communications must be strengthened quickly with South Korea, Japan, India and Indonesia.
